Carnival Cruise Line has officially launched Carnival Rewards, replacing the longtime VIFP Club with a new loyalty program that rewards guests based on spending, cruising milestones and other activity with the cruise line.

Carnival Rewards officially launched September 1, 2026, introducing a completely new way for Carnival cruisers to earn rewards and qualify for loyalty status.

Rather than basing status primarily on the number of days a guest has sailed, Carnival Rewards separates the program into three major components: Carnival Rewards Points, Status Qualifying Stars and Milestone Recognition.

The result is a program that more closely resembles an airline or hotel loyalty program, where spending plays a major role in both earning rewards and reaching higher status levels.

“Cruise loyalty has traditionally been built around how often guests sail, and Carnival Rewards was designed to go beyond that,” Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said in announcing the program.

Here’s how it works.

Carnival Rewards Points Can Be Used Toward Cruises and Onboard Experiences

Carnival Rewards Points are the redeemable currency of the new program.

Members earn:

• 3 Carnival Rewards Points for every $1 spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities.
• 1 Carnival Rewards Point for each unused Casino Point remaining at the end of a sailing.

Points can then be redeemed toward future Carnival cruises as well as eligible experiences during a cruise, including shore excursions, specialty dining, spa treatments and other purchases.

Unlike traditional cruise loyalty benefits that may only become useful after reaching a higher status tier, Carnival Rewards Points can be earned and redeemed regardless of a member’s status.

Points from a cruise are awarded after the sailing is completed and are expected to post approximately 14 days after the voyage ends.

Status Qualifying Stars Determine Your Carnival Rewards Tier

Carnival Rewards Points and Status Qualifying Stars may sound similar, but they serve two different purposes.

Points are what guests spend on rewards.

Stars are what guests earn toward loyalty status.

Members receive:

• 3 Status Qualifying Stars for every $1 spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities.
• 1 Status Qualifying Star for every Casino Point earned, even when those Casino Points have already been redeemed onboard.

Carnival Rewards features four status tiers:

• Red: Enrollment
• Gold: 10,000 Stars
• Platinum: 50,000 Stars
• Diamond: 100,000 Stars

This represents one of the biggest changes from Carnival’s former VIFP loyalty system.

Instead of status being determined primarily by lifetime days sailed, most Carnival Rewards members will now need to qualify based on Stars earned during set earning periods.

Carnival Rewards Status Isn’t Necessarily Forever

Under Carnival Rewards, Status Qualifying Stars are earned during a fixed two-year qualifying window.

The inaugural window runs from September 1, 2026 through December 31, 2028, giving members a little more time than future qualifying periods.

Once a member reaches a new status level, they receive that status immediately and keep it for the remainder of the current qualifying window plus the following two-year status enjoyment period.

After that, members generally need to earn enough Stars during the next qualifying cycle to maintain or improve their status.

That makes Carnival Rewards significantly different from the former VIFP Club, where guests could continue accumulating cruise days toward permanent status.

There are protections for some of Carnival’s most frequent longtime cruisers during the transition.

Guests who earned VIFP Diamond status before the Carnival Rewards transition receive lifetime Carnival Rewards Diamond status after enrolling.

Guests who were VIFP Platinum as of August 31, 2026 receive Platinum status through December 31, 2028 and will receive a 10,000-Star boost at the beginning of future two-year earning cycles, effectively starting those cycles at Gold status.

Milestones Still Reward How Much You’ve Actually Cruised

Carnival hasn’t completely abandoned the concept of recognizing longtime cruisers based on time spent at sea.

The new Milestone Recognition Program operates separately from Carnival Rewards status and tracks a member’s lifetime relationship with Carnival based on days sailed.

That distinction is important.

Your Carnival Rewards status is largely determined by qualifying spending and Stars, while Milestones continue recognizing how much time you’ve actually spent sailing with Carnival.

In other words, someone who cruises frequently but spends relatively little and someone who spends considerably more on fewer cruises could progress very differently through the status program.

Carnival Rewards Mastercard Can Speed Things Up

Carnival has also introduced a new Carnival Rewards Mastercard, allowing cardholders to earn additional Rewards Points and Status Qualifying Stars through both Carnival purchases and everyday spending.

Benefits announced for the card include:

• 50,000 bonus points after new cardmembers spend $1,000 during their first 90 days, subject to terms.
• Up to 6X points on eligible Carnival purchases when card earnings and Carnival Rewards earnings are combined.
• 2X points at eligible restaurants and grocery stores.
• 1X points on other purchases.
• Additional Status Qualifying Stars earned through credit card spending.
• A promotional 0% APR for six months on Carnival cruise booking purchases, subject to terms.
• A 2,500-point anniversary bonus after spending $2,000 during the year.

The card effectively gives guests another path toward both redeemable rewards and higher Carnival Rewards status without requiring every qualifying Star to come directly from a cruise vacation.

What Happened to Carnival VIFP?

The launch of Carnival Rewards marks the end of the VIFP Club name, which Carnival used through August 31, 2026.

Existing VIFP numbers transition to what Carnival now calls a Carnival Guest Number.

However, existing guests shouldn’t assume they’re automatically finished with the transition. Eligible guests need to enroll in Carnival Rewards and accept the program’s terms and conditions to fully participate in the new loyalty program and receive its benefits.

Cruises that began before September 1 but end after the Carnival Rewards launch date receive special transition treatment. Carnival says those sailings will continue recognizing VIFP benefits onboard while also earning applicable Carnival Rewards Points and Stars.

A Very Different Kind of Cruise Loyalty Program

Carnival Rewards is more than a simple rebranding of VIFP.

The fundamental idea behind Carnival loyalty has changed.

Frequent sailing still matters, particularly through Milestone Recognition, but spending now plays a much larger role in determining a guest’s status. Meanwhile, the addition of redeemable Rewards Points gives members something tangible to earn even if they never reach Platinum or Diamond.

For some cruisers, particularly those who spend heavily on cruise fares, dining, excursions, spa treatments and other onboard experiences, the new structure could provide significantly more opportunities to earn rewards.

For longtime Carnival guests accustomed to building permanent status simply by accumulating days at sea, however, the introduction of recurring qualifying periods is a major adjustment.

The first Carnival Rewards qualifying period is now underway and runs through December 31, 2028.
