A legendary voice is setting the tone for Royal Caribbean’s next game-changing cruise experience. The award-winning cruise line has officially named musical icon Diana Ross as the godmother of Star of the Seas, the second ship in its revolutionary Icon Class, launching August 2025 from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida.
A Star for the Star
Diana Ross, whose timeless music has united generations, will lead the ship’s traditional naming ceremony in the stunning AquaTheater, nestled within the futuristic AquaDome neighborhood. This maritime honor not only entrusts Ms. Ross with the ceremonial blessing of the ship, crew, and future guests, but also symbolizes the unifying joy and celebration her music has inspired for decades.
“Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey,” said Ross.
A Celebration Worthy of an Icon
The Star of the Seas promises to deliver the ultimate family vacation, blending resort-style luxury, beachy escapes, and theme park thrills into a floating city of wonder. Guests can explore eight immersive neighborhoods, experience heart-racing excitement at the Category 6 waterpark, relax in one of seven pools, and enjoy more than 40 dining and drinking venues, including the sophisticated Lincoln Park Supper Club.
Entertainment highlights include “Back to the Future: The Musical”, bringing Broadway energy to the high seas, while immersive venues and awe-inspiring productions ensure there’s something for everyone onboard.
Voyages That Make Memories
When she sets sail, Star of the Seas will offer 7-night itineraries across the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with stops at Royal Caribbean’s beloved Perfect Day at CocoCay, and future stops including the new Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (December 2025), Royal Beach Club Cozumel (2026), and Perfect Day Mexico (fall 2027).
“We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross,” said Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean President and CEO. “She’s a true icon who brings people together, just like our ships are designed to do.”
