Cars from around the country are fueling up to be the wildest racer in the “wheelderness.” And fans are racing with curiosity, eager to know how this high-octane new destination fits into the storytelling tapestry of Magic Kingdom.

Today, Disney Parks has confirmed that Piston Peak National Park will extend the seamless narrative tradition that spans from Liberty Square through Frontierland, taking guests on yet another unforgettable journey through time and terrain.

Westward Ho! Crossing into New Frontiers at Magic Kingdom

Since Magic Kingdom’s opening day, guests have traveled across iconic eras of American history and folklore—from the cobblestone streets of Liberty Square, to the wooded rhythms of Grizzly Hall, the soulful sounds of New Orleans at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the rugged Arizona buttes of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

At the heart of each chapter: heroes who forge their own path, inspired by determination and the spirit of adventure. And now, that spirit drives forward into a bold new destination—Piston Peak National Park, part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.

Welcome to Piston Peak National Park

Set in a majestic wilderness of towering pines, alpine peaks, roaring rivers, and explosive geysers, this all-new land draws inspiration from the Rocky Mountains and America’s beloved national parks.

Guests will cruise into the world of Disney and Pixar’s Cars to explore the Piston Peak Visitor Lodge, Ranger Headquarters, off-road rally trails, and more—all designed in harmony with nature thanks to the “Parkitecture” style developed by the National Park Service.

From the moment guests enter, trees and rugged terrain will naturally frame the land, with views of geysers linking the landscape to the world of Big Thunder Mountain. The area will also provide a scenic view across the Rivers of America, where nature and imagination meet.

Cruising Just Around the Bend

To prepare for this expansion, Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will close beginning July 7.

Beyond the mountains of Big Thunder, Imagineers are bringing to life the first-ever land themed to Disney Villains—featuring two thrilling attractions, new dining, and twisted shopping experiences.

Meanwhile, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is set to reopen next year with new surprises, and summer 2025 brings even more excitement:

  • Disney Starlight makes its sparkling debut on July 20
  • The Beak and Barrel opens to all ye pirates looking for grub and grog

So until the next blog, podcast or livestream, keep making memories.
